Sports strapping tape (also known as rigid athletic tape or rigid zinc oxide tape) is a non-elastic, rigid tape made of rayon. Its non-stretch construction provides maximum support for ankles, wrists, and other delicate joints. Unlike flexible kinesiology tape or cotton athletic tape, its primary function is to immobilize or severely limit the range of motion of a joint or limb (such as the ankle, wrist, or knee). Rigid athletic tape provides maximum stability to injured or prone to sprain ligaments, tendons, and muscles. It is commonly used in running, soccer, and football.

More Wear-resistant

Sports strapping tape is made from the synthetic material rayon. Compared to cotton athletic tape, it is more tenacity, abrasion-resistant, durable, and lustrous. It's suitable for high-intensity, long-duration, and specialized sports. Rigid athletic tape is a higher-end product, slightly more expensive, but offers superior quality.

Why Wear Sports Strapping Tape?

Strong Support
Rigid zinc oxide tape can be used as simple splints to temporarily immobilize injured areas, and are commonly used on ankles, knees, wrists, and other joints.
Stabilizes Joints
Sports strapping tape can help athletes stabilize their joints, especially their knees. It has no elasticity, so it provides better support than kinesiology tape.
Prevents Blisters
Rigid athletic tape can help athletes prevent blisters. It is more durable than cotton athletic tape and is often used on fingers, toes, and soles of the feet.

Rigid Athletic Tape Is Great For

Rigid athletic tape is primarily used for joints and injury-prone areas that require strong support, stability, or restriction of movement, such as the ankle, knee, wrist, shoulder, and arch of the foot. It can prevent ankle eversion or inversion and is most suitable for the prevention and rehabilitation of ankle sprains.
Rigid Sports Tape Is Suitable For

Variety Of Sports

{"default":"Football"}
Football
Rigid strapping tape is a non-elastic, highly adhesive sports tape. In football, its core function is to provide strong fixation and support for joints and ligaments, preventing sports injuries and protecting acutely injured areas (such as sprains) by strictly limiting the range of motion of joints. It is mainly used on areas requiring high stability, such as the ankle, wrist, fingers, and knee, to prevent excessive or unsafe movements. It reduces the risk of sprains, dislocations, and ligament strains for athletes during high-impact actions such as tackles, sprints, and sudden changes of direction.
{"default":"running"}
Running
While running, rigid strapping tape can stabilize the ankle, support the knee and foot structures to prevent sprains on uneven terrain, and fix and correct incorrect stress on joints such as the ankle and knee. It can also be applied to the soles of the feet to prevent blisters from developing during prolonged running. It can also help prevent common injuries such as sprains, patellar pain, or plantar fasciitis.
{"default":"Rugby"}
Rugby
When you hit something hard in rugby, rigid strapping tape keeps your joints from moving in unnatural ways, stabilizes them, protects your ligaments, and prevents injuries from occurring.   It helps keep weak areas, such as the ankles, knees, wrists, shoulders, and fingers, still and supported, which lowers the chance of sprains, dislocations, and ligament injuries from tackles, twists, falls, and impacts.
{"default":"Soccer"}
Soccer
In soccer, a sport requiring frequent acceleration, sudden stops, and lateral changes of direction, rigid strapping tape is primarily used to stabilize joints, protect ligaments, and reduce the risk of injury from high-intensity impacts. Wider tapes (38mm and 50mm) are commonly used on the ankles, shoulders, wrists, and knees, while narrower tapes (12.5mm and 25mm) are more often used on goalkeepers' fingers and toes. Of course, it also has some additional uses, such as securing boots.
{"default":"netball"}
Netball
Using a rigid strapping tape to stabilize the ankle while playing netball stops sprains that happen when the foot turns inward or outward while running, stopping suddenly, jumping, turning, or landing on one leg.  It is also often used to protect the fingers, thumb, and wrist from getting hurt when catching or defending against the ball.  It also keeps the wrist joints stable while shooting and passing, making sure that technical movements stay smooth even when things get really tense.
Weightlifting
You can use rigid strapping tape to secure your thumb in a hook grip (reverse grip) while weightlifting, preventing your skin from tearing, blistering, or developing calluses from holding the barbell or heavy weights for an extended period. This will also strengthen your grip.  It can also help stabilize and support the knees and wrists, making them less stressed during heavy lifts like snatches, cleans, jerks, and presses.

Rigid Sports Tape Sizes

Frequently Asked Questions
What is sports strapping tape?
Sports strapping tape is a rigid, non-elastic athletic tape used to support and stabilize joints and muscles during sports or physical activity. It helps prevent injuries and provides firm protection to vulnerable areas.
Which areas are rigid athletic tape suitable for use?
Commonly used for:

Ankle: Prevents sprains;

Knee: Supports the patella;

Wrist and shoulder: Stabilizes the joint.

Foot: Relieves plantar fasciitis.
Can it be used on sensitive skin?
Although Veefun's rigid athletic tape uses a hypoallergenic adhesive, everyone's skin is different, so it's still recommended to do a small area test first or use a base coat to isolate the tape from the skin to avoid allergies or rashes.
How to choose the right size rigid strapping tape?
Common widths include:

25mm: Suitable for fingers and small joints

38mm: Suitable for wrists and ankles

50mm: Suitable for knees and elbows
Will it hurt when you peel off a sports strapping tape?
Honestly, due to its strong adhesive, it can be pretty painful to peel off a large area. If it's just your fingers or toes, you won't feel anything. Therefore, if you're using it over a large area, try to use a pre-wrap.
Who commonly uses sports strapping tape?
It's widely used by athletes, coaches, and physiotherapists in sports like football, rugby, basketball, volleyball, and weightlifting to prevent injuries and improve performance stability.
